MS Resilient Adhesive
Description
Shaw MS Resilient is a one component, 100% solids adhesive for resilient flooring, featuring low permeability, crack isolation up to 1/8" and is impervious to concrete slab alkalinity.
Approved Substrates
- For interior use only.
- MS Resilient may be used for both porous and non-porous substrates.
- Wood Association approved wood underlayment and subflooring. See Resilient Wood Substrate Information.
- Sound and properly prepared concrete (on, above or below grade), metal, wood fiberglass and terrazzo.
- Existing products should be over 1 year old, secure and fully adhered with a full spread of adhesive.
Remove all waxes and polishes from the existing floor before installation.
Substrate Testing
- Moisture testing is not required
For older slabs or slabs with a prior history of moisture related issues, Shaw Technical Support recommends moisture mitigation in the form of a 2-part epoxy system, such as MoistureTEK.
For newer slabs with an intact moisture retarder, initial moisture levels should recede over time.
Substrate Preparation
- Substrate must be structurally sound, clean, level and dry.
- Substrate must be free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, paint, curing agents, concrete sealers, adhesives, loosely bonded toppings, loose particles and any other substance or condition that may prevent or reduce adhesion.
- Do not use over substrates containing asbestos or active cutback adhesive.
- Fill depressions or cracks with a cementitious patching / leveling compound that meet or exceed Shaw Industries maximum moisture level and pH requirements. Use of gypsum-based patching and/or leveling compounds which contain Portland or high alumina cement and meet or exceed the compressive strength of 3,000 psi are acceptable.
- Installation site must be acclimated with HVAC in operation or the temperature must be controlled between 65-95° F (18-35° C) and the ambient relative humidity controlled between 30-65% before, during and permanently after the installation.
- Do not use over chemically abated substrates.
Application Instructions
Read and follow the product specific installation guidelines for layout, design and any special instructions for installation.
- Spread adhesive using the recommended trowel.
- Spread adhesive evenly over substrate, keeping the trowel at a 45° angle to the substrate.
- Lay resilient flooring immediately into wet MS Resilient adhesive.
After installation of floor covering, roll floor covering with a 75 – 100 lb roller.
Start from the center of the room towards the edges to expel trapped air and ensure 100% contact with the adhesive. Check flooring after 1 hour and roll again if necessary.
| Flash Time |
Immediate |
The waiting time required before installing floor covering. |
| Working Time |
45-50 minutes |
The window of time for the adhesive to accept floor covering. |
Note: Coverage rate, flash time and working time may vary based on temperature, humidity, substrate porosity, jobsite conditions and application practices.
Areas with lower than normal relative humidity will result in a reduced working time.
Recommended Tools and Spread Rates
