Shaw requires the use of seam sealer on all carpet products with the exception of carpet tile products. Shaw 4000 is a non-flammable seam sealer recommended for sealing cut edges of carpet to prevent raveling.

Application
- Prepare carpet according to Shaw’s Installation Guidelines.
- Apply a bead of seam sealer along the carpet primary backing using the applicator tip provided with the bottle.
- When direct gluing carpet apply seam sealer to only one side of the carpet. When stretching in carpet apply seam sealer to both sides of the carpet.
- Complete the seam by butting both sections of the carpet together while the seam sealer is still wet (within 5-10 minutes). When stretching in carpet, allow both seam sealed edges to dry to a clear state before hot melting the seam. Hot melting will reactivate the seam sealer to bond both edges of carpeting together.
Clean up
To remove smears of seam sealer from the carpet surface within 10 minutes use a clean cloth wet with soapy water. Do not apply soapy water directly on carpet. Clean with mineral spirits once dried. Use caution with mineral spirits, which may be harmful to some materials.
