BC9000 barrier coat

description

Totalworx BC9000 is a specially formulated barrier primer that offers exceptional adhesion to both aged and newly poured concrete. This versatile product is designed for application over a variety of substrates, including old cutback adhesive, asphalt-based materials, VCT tile, wood flooring, and other solid surfaces.

One of the features of Totalworx BC9000 is its compatibility with chemically abated subfloors. However, it is essential to first perform an additional cleaning using Surface Prep EXT. This involves applying the cleaner, agitating the surface, and then removing it before proceeding with the application of Totalworx BC9000.

Totalworx BC9000 provides effective moisture protection. It can significantly reduce the need for extensive commercial floor preparation, creating a stable and protective barrier against existing subfloor issues.

APPROVED SUBSTRATES

For Interior Use Only

  • Concrete: Sound and properly prepared concrete surfaces (on, above, or below grade).

  • Other: Metal, fiberglass, and terrazzo.

  • Self-Leveling/Patching Compounds: Properly prepared cement-based self-leveling and patching compounds. Primed gypsum underlayments. Embossing levelers applied over existing, properly prepared, and fully bonded ceramic tile and sheet vinyl. (Refer to Additional Information - Leveling Patching Compounds)

  • Wooden Substrates: Wood Association approved wood underlayment and subflooring. Exterior-grade plywood, Group 1, CC type

  • Existing Resilient/VAT/VCT: Should be over 1 year old, secure and fully adhered with a full spread of adhesive. Remove all waxes and polishes from the existing floor before installation.

  •  Other: Metal, fiberglass, and terrazzo.

SPECIAL TREATMENTS AND PREPARATION

  • Chemical and Alkali Resistant Barrier: Provides protection against chemical reactions.

  • Adhesive Residue Sealing: Seal pre-existing adhesive residue or unknown/contaminated adhesives to prevent reactions with new adhesive applications. This is particularly recommended when installing new vinyl-backed floor coverings to prevent plasticizers in the vinyl backing from reactivating or further plasticizing the pre-existing adhesive.

  • Adhesives should be minimized to a thin, well-bonded residue. Before applying Totalworx BC9000, ensure that all surfaces are thoroughly cleaned by sweeping or vacuuming.

  • Cutback Adhesive and Asphalt-Based Products: Suitable for use on these types of subfloors. Wet scrape to reduce cutback adhesive to a well bonded residue prior to applying Totalworx BC9000.

  • Chemically Abated Subfloors: NOTE: An additional cleaning with Surface Prep EXT is required. Apply, agitate, and remove prior to applying Totalworx BC9000.

  • Urine Block: Apply 2 coats for effective treatment.

MOISTURE CONTROL AND PREPARATION

Provided the site is absent of hydrostatic pressure.

  • Moisture Control: Provides stable and protective isolation from existing subfloor problems, reducing the need for extensive commercial floor preparation.
  • Substrate must be free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, paint, curing agents, concrete sealers, adhesives, loosely bonded toppings, loose particles and any other substance or condition that may prevent or reduce adhesion.
  • Concrete Surface Profile: CSP 2-3 to facilitate proper penetration and bond to the substrate.

WARNING:  DO NOT SAND, DRY SWEEP, DRY SCRAPE, DRILL, SAW, BEAD BLAST OR MECHANICALLY CHIP OR PULVERISE EXISTING RESILIENT FLOORING, BACKING, LINING FELT, ASPHALTIC “CUTBACK” ADHESIVES OR OTHER ADHESIVES.

These products may contain either asbestos fibers and/or crystalline silica.  Avoid creating dust. Inhalation of such dust is a cancer and respiratory tract hazard. Smoking by individuals exposed to asbestos fibers greatly increases the risk of serious bodily harm. Unless positively certain that the product is a non‐ asbestos‐containing material, you must presume it contains asbestos. Regulations may require that the material be tested to determine asbestos content and may govern the removal and disposal of material.  See current edition of the Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI) publication Recommended Work Practices for Removal of Resilient Floor Coverings for detailed information and instructions on removing all resilient covering structures.  For current information go to www.rfci.com.

SITE CONDITIONS

  • Site Temperatures: Installation site must be acclimated with HVAC in operation or the temperature must be controlled between 65-95° F (18- 35° C) and the ambient relative humidity controlled between 30-65% before, during and permanently after the installation.

  • Substrate Temperatures: Use only when the substrate temperature is between 50°F and 90°F (10°C and 32°C).

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preparation
  • Gather materials: one complete container of Part A, one complete container of Part B, a clean 5-gallon mixing container, a medium nap paint roller or brush, and a mixing tool.

  • Ensure proper ventilation in the work area.

  1. Mixing

  • Pour all of Part B into the 5-gallon container with Part A.

  • Mix thoroughly for about three minutes until uniform.

  1. Application

  • It is important to note that actual coverage on the job site may differ based on various factors, particularly the conditions of the substrate. Substrate characteristics such as texture, porosity, and moisture content can significantly influence how much material is required for effective application. New or less porous concrete may absorb less.

  • Using a medium nap paint roller or brush, apply the mixed Totalworx BC9000 evenly across the surface.

  • Ensure consistent coverage by working in manageable sections.

  1. Dry Time and Curing Time

  • Drying time refers to the duration needed for a coating to reach a tack-free state, indicating that it is no longer sticky to the touch.

  • Curing time is the period required before installation of the flooring can commence.

  • Both drying and curing times can fluctuate significantly due to various factors, including temperature, humidity levels, and the porosity of the substrate. It's essential to consider these variables to ensure optimal results during the application and installation process.
