FIne Finish Patch
DESCRIPTION
Fine Finish Patch is a cement-based compound designed to skim coat, smooth and level subfloor irregularities from a featheredge up to ½” (12mm). Fine Finish can rapidly set to install most floor coverings in as little as 30 minutes depending on thickness applied and site ambient conditions.
APPROVED SUBSTRATES
-
For interior use only.
-
Concrete, Cement backerboards, Concrete Terrazzo, Ceramic Tile, Quarry tile, Epoxy Terrazzo
-
Wood Association approved wood underlayment and subflooring. See Resilient Wood Substrate Information Sound and properly prepared concrete (on, above or below grade).
-
Existing resilient products should be over 1 year old, secure and fully adhered with a full spread of adhesive. Remove all waxes and polishes from the existing floor before installation.
-
Gypsum substrate, priming is required.
SUBSTRATE TESTING
No moisture testing required.
For older slabs or slabs with a prior history of moisture related issues, Shaw Technical Support recommends moisture mitigation in the form of a 2-part epoxy system, such as MoistureTEK.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
-
Substrate must be structurally sound, clean, level and dry.
-
Substrate must be free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, paint, curing agents, concrete sealers, adhesives, loosely bonded toppings, loose particles and any other substance or condition that may prevent or reduce adhesion.
-
Concrete and cementitious substrates must be fully cured and free of hydrostatic pressure and topical moisture.
-
Fine Finish can be installed over green concrete.
-
For cracks and saw cuts deeper that 1”, Shaw QuickFil is recommended.
-
Installation surface temperature must be above 50ºF (10ºC).
-
Do not use over chemically abated substrates.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS AND COVERAGE RATES
Read and follow the product specific installation guidelines for layout, design and any special instructions for installation.
Mixing
-
Mix as much that can be installed in a 15-20 minute time period.
-
Fine Finish must be applied to the substrate immediately after mixing.
-
One bag of Fine Finish should be mixed slowly using 2.25 to 2.5 quarts of water.
-
Mix at a slow speed and do not exceed 300 rpm to prevent entraining air.
-
For smaller amounts, use a 2:1 ratio (powder: water).
-
Mix thoroughly to a smooth, lump free consistency.
-
Do not overwater.
Application
-
Use a flat, steel trowel to spread Fine Finish to a smooth level surface.
-
Fine Finish has a working time of 15-20 minutes depending on site ambient conditions.
-
Applications greater than ½” (12mm) in thickness will require 2 applications. Allow the first application to set before applying the second.
-
Do not exceed a total thickness of 1” (25mm).
-
Do not overwork the product.
-
Product can be re-mixed without water to maximize pot life
