UnGlu'd Questions / Answers
What is Unglu’d? PrepWorx UnGlu’d is an advanced, patent-pending chemical de-bonding technology effective in the removal of pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) and other flooring mastics, glues, and adhesives (both water-based and non-water-based). PrepWorx UnGlu’d is non-toxic and fully biodegradable. This fast-acting formula eliminates the need for time-consuming mechanical or abrasive removal, as well as the use of toxic chemicals.
How does Unglu'd work?
-
Before use, mix the product 2-3 minutes until it looks like a smooth milkshake and apply with a paint roller.
-
Use a black pad or some other scrubbing pad with water and scrub until residue is removed. Vacuum water.
-
You can use a ride-on with a black pad and vacuum, but it might slip on residue at first.
Can this be used on other subfloors besides concrete? (i.e wood)
- We only recommend it for use on concrete and other cementitious substrates.
Is the material hazardous?
- No, it is Eco-friendly, biodegradable.
What if there is asbestos?
- Unglu’d will remove many types of adhesives. Do not sand or scrape Vinyl Asbestos tile (VAT) without proper attention to abatement procedures or precautions in accordance with all state and local codes.
Can we overnight or ship via express? (i.e. transportation regulations)
How should I dispose of the solid and liquid waste? Is it safe for the landfill? For the drains?
-
Unglu’d is not reactive and does not create any harmful by-products. It is non-toxic and safe for landfills. Adhesive residue disposal should follow the same procedure as if the adhesive were removed using traditional scraping/grinding methods.
-
When you scrape it, it turns into a putty, so you do not want to put it down a drain. Put the putty back into the bucket and put it in the dumpster.
-
You can dump liquid down the drain. It becomes a bacterial food that will break down over time.
What types of adhesives does this work on?
-
Wood glue, pressure sensitive, multi-purpose, solvent-based adhesives, any common commercial adhesive.
-
Could do paint and epoxies if given enough time.
How will I know if I get all of the residue removed?
- It will be dry and coarse to touch. You will not feel ‘oil’ or a ‘film’ on your hand. It will be bone dry.
How long does it take to dry?
- The subfloor must be dry prior to application of new adhesive. Drying time is dependent on atmospheric conditions – concrete can dry quicker depending on the environment. If you have fans blowing, it will be faster.
Who is our target audience?
- Procurement, dealers, builders, education, college apartments.
Will this remove oil and grease?
-
No, those products will soak down into your slab and unglue’d will not soak into your slab. Use surface prep EXT to extract oil and grease.
-
Whenever you are removing adhesive, the subfloor should’ve been prepped before that adhesive went down so there should not be a need to remove oil and grease.
Customers may worry about residue seeping into the subfloor and becoming a future bond breaker. What should we tell them?
- It won't saturate into the subfloor due to molecule size, and will not leave a residue when properly removed. Use of Unglu’d will not affect the warranty of any Shaw adhesive that is subsequently used on treated areas.
