QBC300 Quick Base Coat Primer

DESCRIPTION

Prepworx QBC300 is a ready-to-apply, quick-drying primer suitable for both interior and exterior surfaces. Its specialized formula helps reduce drips and splashes, making it easy to work with. Use it as a bonding layer before the installation of tile setting materials or self-leveling products. This primer creates a textured finish on smooth surfaces and is ideal for moisture-prone areas like kitchens, bathrooms, and patios.

AVAILABLE SYSTEM

When PrepWorx QBC300 is installed as directed as part of the approved system below, it qualifies for applicable system warranty coverage, making it a reliable and efficient choice for moisture control.

APPROVED SUBSTRATES

  • Interior and exterior use for residential and commercial applications

  • Suitable over:
  • Structurally sound concrete

  • APA Exposure Type 1 plywood, OSB, or equivalent subfloors

  • Well-bonded hard surface flooring (e.g., terrazzo, ceramic tile, stone, epoxy coatings)

  • PrepWorx moisture control systems

  • Well-bonded, non-water-soluble adhesive residues (including cutback adhesive)

  • Existing gypsum (Follow absorbent substrate guidelines listed below) and Portland-based leveling compound

  • For use over radiant heat systems .

  • Do not use over chemically abated substrates.

SUBSTRATE TESTING

  • No moisture testing requirement

  • Refer to substrate moisture limits per flooring installation requirements.

  • Ensure that concrete is dry before application, provided the site is absent of hydrostatic pressure.

  • If RH exceeds acceptable levels, apply a moisture control system like PrepWorx MCS310 or VBS311

  • Install when substrate, product, and ambient temperatures are a minimum of 50°F (10°C)(Maximum 85°F / 29°C).

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

  • Substrates must be structurally sound, clean, and surface dry.

  • Substrate must be free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, paint, curing agents, concrete sealers, loosely bonded toppings, loose particles and any other substance or condition that may prevent or reduce adhesion.

  • Concrete and cementitious substrates must be fully cured and free of hydrostatic pressure and topical moisture.

  • Clean surfaces using mechanical methods and not use acid etching or sanding, which will not provide adequate bonding preparation.

  • Concrete must be absorbent. Test for absorbency (ASTM F3191).

  • Deep vacuum thoroughly after preparation to remove any remaining debris.

  • For dormant cracks wider than 1/32” (0.8 mm), PrepWorx CJR400 may be used to repair.

  • It is recommended to fill dormant cracks and saw cuts deeper that 1”, using Prepworx MRS101 or QVR110

  • Ensure all moving joints, including expansion and isolation joints, as well as moving cracks, are properly addressed and accounted for throughout the entire flooring system, including the finish layer. No flooring material should be installed over these areas.

  • For concrete surfaces with a profile greater than a maximum CSP 3 contact Shaw Technical Service before continuing with any work 1.800.471.7429.

WARNING! DO NOT SAND, DRY SWEEP, DRY SCRAPE, DRILL, SAW, BEAD BLAST ORMECHANICALLY CHIP OR PULVERISE EXISTING RESILIENT FLOORING, BACKING, LINING FELT , ASPHALTIC “ CUT BACK” ADHESIVES OR OTHER ADHESIVES. These products may contain either asbestos fibers and/or crystalline silica. Avoid creating dust. Inhalation of such dust is a cancer and respiratory tract hazard. Smoking by individuals exposed to asbestos fibers greatly increases the risk of serious bodily harm. Unless positively certain that the product is a non‐asbestos‐containing material, you must presume it contains asbestos. Regulations may require that the material be tested to determine asbestos content and may govern the removal and disposal of material. APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS AND COVERAGE RATES

Read and follow the product specific installation guidelines for layout, design and any special instructions for installation.

Mixing

  • Stir thoroughly with a wooden paint stirrer or similar tool to fully re-suspend any settled components.

  • Do not use mechanical mixing or additives.

  • Required for highly absorbent substrates to reduce air bubbles, dilute Prepworx QBC300 with water as follows, stirring well before applying.

  • Add up to 3 quarts (2.8 L) per 4-gallon (15.14 L) unit.

Application

  • Spread a thin, even layer of freshly mixed product onto the prepared concrete.

  • Load a 3/8" nap roller with the product, apply evenly in one direction, and then back roll.

Curing

  • Drying times vary depending on environmental conditions

  • Allow the primer to dry to a thin, opaque white layer (at least 30 minutes).

  • Once dry, there is no required waiting period before applying underlayments or tile mortar, but it’s best to proceed promptly to avoid contamination or damage.

  • Ensure proper ventilation to speed up the drying process
